Once you have properly planned the laying of the ready mixed concrete, you will need to set the formwork (wooden guides for the concrete). The formwork should be set around the edge of the area and nailed firmly to pegs spaced at regular intervals along its length, ensuring that the pegs are on the outside of the boards. Make sure that all levels and falls are correct, and that pegs do not project above the formwork. Measure the depth, width and length in metres and multiply these together to find the volume of concrete in cubic metres that you need to order. If you prefer to work in yards and inches, measure the width and length in yards and multiply together to give you the area in square yards. Measure the depth in inches and read across the table below to find the volume you need for your area and depth. The table below converts area in yards and depth of concrete in inches into volume in cubic metres.

Calculation

Read down the first column until you find the area that you are going to cover, then read across the table to find the amount of concrete you need to give the required depth in inches. For example, if the area is 30 square yards and the required depth is 4", reading acrosss the table gives you the volume of concrete as 2.6 cubic metres.

5 0.5 0.6 0.7 0.8 0.9 1.0

Once you have set the formwork, you are ready to order your ready mixed concrete in Liverpool. When placing your order with Spotmix Ltd on 0151 933 6085/6760 please remember to allow about 10% extra concrete for wastage, otherwise you may be unable to finish the project. Please try to enable the delivery driver to manoeuvre his truck as near to your work area as he can and ensure there is a wheelbarrow route free of obstacles from the truck to the work area. Spotmix will wheelbarrow the concrete to your work area, but please remember that 1 cubic metre of concrete weighs about 2.5 tonnes, which means approximately 15-20 barrow loads will be required and you will only have an hour or so before the concrete starts to go off.
